Re: My poor ancient HD-DVD/BD Combo!
I just wanted to add a +1 to this request to add the RS1013 platform to LibreDrive. I have the LG GGC-H20L HD DVD and Blu-ray Combo drive. It would make life easier if we could avoid the VUK method with the HD DVD (which are, literally, rotting away as we speak). Here's what I'm rocking as well: Dri...

Re: A Better Way To Find The Correct Playlist/Segment Map
It seems like OpenedFilesView ( https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/opened_files_view.html ) is a Windows program. MetalDave was asking about how to do it on a Mac. I'm multi-OS; I'm using Ubuntu right now to read this. :D That said, I'm curious to know a better process on any OS. Thank you to both dcoke...

Re: Ubuntu Desktop Install and Integration with VLC
As I was unable to resolve the use of dynamic shared libraries with the Snap installation, I removed that application. As a next step, I installed the version from the focal repository. I used the apt package manager, but you can use the Ubuntu Software app manager to get this version via the GUI as...

Re: Desktop Icon with Ubuntu Desktop
I'm guessing a reboot did the job as it started appearing. I appreciate the recommendation of the gtk utility, and I'm sure that will come in handy. Thank you!

Re: VLC Media Player won't play blu-ray's in Ubuntu 20.04? (Running latest MakeMKV)
Incidentally, here's my output from running "make install" with makemkv-bin-1.15.2 $ sudo make install rm -f /usr/bin/makemkvcon rm -f /usr/bin/mmdtsdec rm -f /usr/share/MakeMKV/* install -d /usr/share/MakeMKV install -d /usr/bin install -t /usr/bin bin/amd64/makemkvcon install -m 644 -t /...

Re: VLC Media Player won't play blu-ray's in Ubuntu 20.04? (Running latest MakeMKV)
I've got an interesting one for you all. I'm running a clean install of Ubuntu 20.04, and I've been trying to find the right combination of MakeMKV and VLC. So far, I'm using VLC installed and running via Snap and MakeMKV which has been installed from source (based upon the post from Mike as cited b...

Desktop Icon with Ubuntu Desktop
I have successfully compiled and installed MakeMKV v1.15.2 on my Ubuntu Desktop v20.04 system. When I launch the app from the Gnome desktop, the generic application icon is used rather than the MakeMKV one. I was curious if anyone has addressed this. It appears the appropriate GUI files have been in...

Re: Trying to enable Direct DVD playback and get this error
Interestingly enough, it looks like a copy of libmmbd.so.0 is installed to /usr/lib when you compile and install MakeMKV. This was my experience using Ubuntu 20.04 with MakeMKV v.1.15.2. Thus, the instruction on the Direct Blu-ray playback with VLC would be incorrect in this case (and cause the erro...

Re: Ubuntu Desktop Install and Integration with VLC
Atlas2000, Thanks for the feedback. That's an interesting approach to address multiple areas. First, I've heard of Flatpak as an alternative to the Ubuntu built-in Snap package manager. Similar to Snap, it doesn't look like the developers themselves are creating the distributions on Flathub in the m...

Re: Is Ubuntu Snap Officially Supported?
Looking at the snapcraft.io site (official Canonical store for Ubuntu), it looks like Daniel Llewellyn has done a great job maintaining the latest release on behalf of Mike and the development of MakeMKV. https://snapcraft.io/makemkv I don't think Mike's been keen on participating in any App Store m...

Re: How long will an older version continue to work?
As Woodstock posted in his FAQ : However, the beta key that is linked to above, DOES expire periodically, in part to make sure people remember to stay current with the beta, and in part to encourage you to buy your own permanent key, which won't expire. Unfortunately, there is no set period of time ...

Re: external dvd drive (linux)
Up until recently, I have used a Vantec NexStar DX case with an LG WH165NS40 as my tried-and-true combination. I recently installed the LG drive into a tower case and started experimenting with it and Ubuntu Desktop. The drive reads discs fine in that installation, and I have no reason to doubt it w...

Ubuntu Desktop Install and Integration with VLC
I am running the latest Ubuntu Desktop distribution (Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS). I have used the Snap package manager to install MakeMKV v1.15.2. All appears to work fine, but I noticed the supporting files are not being installed correctly for use with VLC and the like. As it would appear the Integration ...

Re: Pioneer BDR-XS07TS rips only with 2X
I have a BDR-208M (aka BDR-2208 ), and I experienced similar issues. This was my first Blu-ray burner/reader, and I installed it in a Vantec NexStar DX case. Although the unit is rated between 4x and 8x for reads on BD-R (depending upon the optical media), I found the performance to be inconsistent....
