Re: MakeMKV not retaining Closed Captions
The biggest difference between subtitles and closed captioning is where it is stored. Subtitles are separate "tracks" within the VOB, while CC on DVDs are "packets" within the video stream track. The subject does come up from time to time: https://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopi...

MakeMKV not retaining Closed Captions
MakeMKV handles Subtitles perfectly well. But it seems to remove / fail to copy Closed Captions into the destination MKV file. Is there a setting I'm missing? My girlfriend is deaf and relies heavily on CC's when watching TV, and on (english) Subtitles when watching movies. But often times, she pref...

Re: basic instructions not clear on how to copy
In VLC, you should open the index.bdmv file in the BDMV directory. But if you're looking to copy the individual movie, you should not be using "Backup" mode - you should click on the large button that looks like a disk, and open the disk instead. Then you can select the main feature, and ...

Re: Strange problem after ripping - only half movie converte
I just tried to rip another movie (backup entire bluray to disk (~45 GB), then use handbrake to transcode to an MKV file); and this time, I got a repeat of the problem reported above - the handbrake process ends much earlier than predicted (maybe 30 minutes into what it was predicting as a 1hr 40m j...

Re: basic instructions not clear on how to copy
I have a question similar to the one asked by the OP, so I'll tag my question here. I successfully did a 'backup' of a blueray disk to my hard drive, resulting in ~50 GB of files / folders. When I launch VLC, the only relevant option seems to be 'open file'. When I do that, I can choose the parent f...

Re: Strange problem after ripping - only half movie converte
Update - a third rip with MakeMKV resulted in files that yielded a flawless handbrake process. A 'beyond compare' comparison of first and third rips showed the files were identical. So somehow, that second rip resulted in files that were slightly different (only by the odd byte, per Beyond Compare)....

Re: Strange problem after ripping - only half movie converte
Thanks for the speedy response. Sorry, I wasn't clear - my output container was already MKV. I play my movies on a variety of devices and I've found MKV is the most reliable. The subtitles in the second attempt from the first ripped source were 'perfect', so I probably had 'user error' when creating...

Strange problem after ripping - only half movie converted
I've been using MakeMKV + Handbrake for some time on Windows with no problems. I'm now trying to convert over to using my MacBook Pro. I hooked up my bluray drive, popped in Star Trek Beyond, and 'backed up' the disk to the local drive with MakeMKV. I then ran handbrake, pointed at the backed up fol...
