Yes! I was having the same exact issues, similarly with Avatar. 1.12.3 was unable to rip with subtitles enabled - always this error:
Need the forced subtitles for this movie. Reverting to 1.12.2 solves the issue. Not sure about other titles.

This used to work, the problem is Handbrake 1.0. If you can find a version of Handbrake < 1.0, these steps work just fine.
