Re: MakeMKV above v1.17.7 still broken on Linux

Really? I'll try that after the next update if it is still not working. Thanks.

Re: In-video text being removed

MakeMKV cannot remove hard-coded subtitles, or make any other changes to the image.

Handbrake will burn the subtitles into the image, at the cost of a little processing time.

Re: No menu / credits / small videos

On DVD some short segments and the menus themselves are stored in special menu videos which MakeMKV cannot see. I don't recall other software being able to do it either.

Same here. 1.17.8 and .9 hang when trying open both Blu-ray and DVD discs. I'm not using UHD.

This is with both a SATA ASUS drive and and a USB Pioneer.

1.17.7 works.

Re: Buying makemkv and linux?

Which distribution of linux? Arch has the binaries in its AUR library. Other distributions might have something similar.

I used to compile it; it's not difficult.

Re: Linux mint 21.3 need help adding MakeMKV to system

The official build instructions are here: https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=224 Are people saying that doesn't work? I used to do it quite often but now on Arch Linux I use the version in the user repository. It doesn't look like Mint has this in their repository. So I would bu...

Re: Naming Files in Linux

I may not be understanding.

You have a list of titles on the left. Click on one and there is a "Properties" selection on the right. One of the properties is "File name".

Does it work differently on Windows?

Re: Old ccextractor version

I'm using ccextractor 0.94 on Arch linux. Like MakeMKV itself, it comes from the AUR user-supported repository.

I don't think ccextractor is packaged with MakeMKV here.

Re: Can rewritable DVD's have copy-protection?

It is technically not possible to have CSS on burnable media. I don't know what the others are. The owners have calculated a trade-off: how much do we lose by piracy vs what is the advantage of keeping these titles in print (on demand)? The ones I have seen are all deep catalog and classics. Probabl...

Re: Can rewritable DVD's have copy-protection?

For items picked up from ebay, etc: it is hard. You can look for clues in the quality of the disc label or box art, but those can be expertly duplicated. I had a bootleg where the file dates were way too recent, the dual layer original had been compressed to one layer, and the audio codecs were non ...

Re: Can rewritable DVD's have copy-protection?

The big studios do produced DVD-R discs. They do not have CSS copy protection. I've gotten a few dual layer DVDs and a small number of burned Blu-rays.

This is their "manufactured on demand" effort.

Scanning my notes: Warner, Sony, Fox, MGM, TCM, Universal have all done it.

I've seen those messages for years and they have caused no problems for me.

DVDs are not always authored with care and you sometimes see strange errors.

Re: MakeMKV v1.17.4 linux can't find any usable optical drives

I'm using Arch with makemkv installed from the AUR repository. I use both SATA and USB Blu-ray drives. I don't recall any specific setup required. Could be a module or group permissions error? Do other applications see the drive? It mounts discs and the contents are visible? If there is anything you...
