Is the physical drive label consistent w/ MakeMKV output? Or, at least, indicate a viable candidate for (cross-)flashing?

where it always is.You should bookmark it if you rely on the beta key.

MKVToolNix worked fine for me. I did get an error playing back the combined MKV file on the Zidoo when it got to the part for that would normally require a switch to the second disc. Upon further investigation, I needed to use MKVToolNix to edit the chapter numbers as it was going back to chapter 1...

Looks to me as though you missed a portion of the key... my permanent key begins w/ 'M-...", while the temp keys seem to begin w/ 'T-...'. Use the complete string.

Conventional wisdom is to recommend cleaning the disc gently, no matter how pristine it may appear to your eye. This may/may not help. Another thing to try is loading an older version of MakeMKV (v1.6.7?, see sig for link). This may prove problematic if you don't have a permanent key. In that case, ...
