Yes, the original backup had been created by an older version of MakeMKV on May 11, 2011. I am not having any problems with other backups on that hard drive.
The current version 1.9.9 of MakeMKV was able to create a new backup from the Blu-Ray disc, and also opened that backup without any problems.

I am wondering whether the files are somehow corrupted or were not decrypted when they were written to the backup drive. Therefore I will rip the files again from the Blu-ray disc over the weekend.
