I found a workaround to my issue. Apparently the cable that comes with this drive is not great quality and has problems at higher speeds. I guess my new computer could read data faster than the cable could handle. Bizarrely changes to a USB2 cable fixes the problem, although it does read slower. I t...

It is directly plugged in to the iMac, but this blu ray drive actually comes with it's own power supply so I don't believe it would use power from the USB port, though I guess that would be possible?
