I'm having exactly the same problem - and have posted in a different thread (you can find it pretty easily). Someone has suggested there that it might relate to certain Windows updates.

I am using Bit Defender. It's Windows 7 Home Premium. I saw that some people are having problems with Bit Defender. I've added:-
makemkv.exe
makemkvcon64.exe
makemkvcon.exe
to the Bit Defender Firewall exclusion list - makes no difference.

I am experiencing exactly the same problem. 1.9.4 worked perfectly. An upgrade install to 1.9.5 crashes on start up (i.e. irrespective of presence of DVD or not). This is with Windows 7 64 bit. I installed on a completely different machine (though also Win 7 / 64 - which was a clean MakeMKV install ...
