I''m beginning to think my Blade Runner 4K problems might be hardware related, since it won't even mount the disc without ALOT of effort, yet regular blu-ray discs work just fine.

Have dispatched a message to the legendary Billy for a replacement.

Already submitted two separate support requests.

Am interested to see if anyone else has had any problems or had any success in making an mkv file from it?

Has anyone had any success making an mkv file from a Blade Runner Final Cut 4K disc?

I've tried several (OK - 2) and neither can be be read by makemkv, yet other 4K discs work fine.

Would love to know where and when you got them.

It has been my experience that making an mkv file from a blu-ray typically takes about 45-55 minutes. Transcoding that mkv file into an m4v file (Apple's version of mp4) with Handbrake is usually on a 2:1 or sometimes 3:1 basis. When I converted my Friends blu-rays, I used a blu-ray player program to tell me the actual file name (NOT the episode name) and used that to determine the episode name. Just out of curiosity, what was the average size of your 4K mkv files after you ripped them?
Mine typically run about 10-15% smaller than the starting size prior to ripping.

Generally speaking, a Blu-ray will be 1080p, and 4K will usually be 2160p. So to answer your question, no. The blu-ray will NOT be the same quality as a 4K.
