Re: Star Wars 4Ks

Last Jedi Freezes up at about 7gig mark. My guess bad disc no idea how to exchange. Try cleaning the disc with some isopropyl alcohol or glasses cleaner and a microfiber cloth (wipe out from the center NOT in circles around the disc). Often discs with no visible scratches/marks have a chemical laye...

Re: Star Wars 4Ks

By the way...if you notice the opening of the movies is in a foreign language (a long time ago...), I figured out that each of movies has multiple listing for the film on the 4K disc. The only difference being the opening script language. The dialogue is English in each case unless you turn it off b...

Re: Star Wars 4Ks

I purchased all 11 Star Wars 4K UHD movies (the 9 traditional ones and the two Star Wars stories) as separate items from Amazon. Most of them were in a 3 movies for price of 2 deal. Got all of them for about 20% less then that monstrosity of a box set. So far, all have ripped fine except The Last Je...

Re: Selling UltraHD Friendly+Official UHD drives, usb, sleep bug fix,LibreDrive Enable,Remote Flashing,Tested no read erro

Just got my new 4K-compatible drive and enclosure from Billy Carlson.
The drive works as good as it looks and it arrived just in time for me to try
it out on a set of Ghostbusters 4K blu-rays. Each disc scanned perfectly and
VERY quietly.

Re: Blade Runner Final Cut 4K

Just to bring an end to my part of this conversation... After having determined that it was indeed the media itself (due in no small part to the good offices of Billy Carlson), I ordered a third one. This one I got from a different vendor, in hopes of getting it from a different batch then the first...

Re: Can't Rip Rise of Skywalker Screener

If memory serves me, a screener is an advanced copy of a movie usually sent to vendors before the actual product is released. Back in the old days of VHS, they were used so the retailer could see the product ahead of time, to decide if they wanted to order it. That's how I originally saw Planes, Tra...

Re: Loss of subtitles

It's a little off-topic, but I feel your pain with regards to managing large libraries. I'm retiring twin 10TB external drives and am moving to twin 20TB RAIDS (in 5-bay containers) to manage my ever-growing library. These RAIDS have an ultimate storage capacity of 64TB (4x16TB each; I'm leaving one...

Re: What do you use after makeMKV?

I’ve tried using Handbrake for UHD transcoding but it has a very washed out look to it, not to mention it takes a really long time. I’d be happy to know what your settings are when using it.

Grease 40th blu-ray

By any chance does anyone know which of the English subtitles contains the sing-along portion that can be selected when the disc itself is playing? I'd rather not get all the dialogue with it if I can avoid it.

Thanks.

Re: MakeMKV - Mac compatibility

I ran into a similar issue with MakeMKV when running Sierra (10.12), regarding the OS not wanting to properly install the program after downloading it. I just did the Control-Open trick to override it and all was well. Yes, I had to do this every time I installed an updated version of mkv, but it's ...

Re: Forced subtitles

Assuming that you are not trying to transcode a UHD mkv file, Handbrake should solve your subtitle problems. First off, check to make sure the subtitles you want are turned on in makemkv before you rip the media. Then once you get the mkv file, do the transcoding in Handbrake. It will let you turn o...

Re: Hitchcock - The Lady Vanishes

Something I've noticed with ripping standard DVD's that might help in this instance. Once I installed the patch to a new external blu-ray/UHD drive so it would properly handle UHD media, the drive no longer likes regular DVD media. It would eventually just grind to halt during the initial scan proce...

Re: Subtitle process (MakeMKV and Handbrake for Blu-ray)

I usually don't have an issue with HandBrake doing the transcoding of my mkv files from standard DVD or blu-rays. In those rare instances where I've discovered a foreign language is being used after the conversion, I reburn the mkv and then turn off those languages I don't want, leaving only English...

What do you use after makeMKV?

Aloha These questions are specifically related to MAC users who transcode UHD mkv files so they can be watched from iTunes or AppleTV via iTunes. What software are you using to do the transcoding of your UHD mkv files? How long does it take to do the transcoding? Does it leave the forced subtitles i...
