Re: Recovering from read errors in Linux

OK TLDR: I succeeded in rescuing the disc! Long version: ddrescue zoomed through the remaining 1100 or so Kb on the last attempt a couple of days ago so I thought "Wow!". I ran through the remaining steps and unfortunately makemkv was still unable to rip the titles I needed from this one s...

Re: Recovering from read errors in Linux

Just a quick update (in case it is helpful for others), Ive been re-running step 2 but I increased the number of retries to 2 or more (i'm working on 4 at the moment) and the bad-sector size is reducing slowly every time which is great. This is the line I use (for reference): ddrescue -d -r4 -b2048 ...

Re: Libredrive version v6

Hello Mike, Thanks for providing a great product first off. Also thanks for allowing my drive to be supported for Libredrive. I don't have nor use UHD, so to me Libredrive is useless? Now can you remove it? When I ripped a bluray before I was compatible, I had great ripping speed. Now I am far slow...

Re: Recovering from read errors in Linux

I strongly recommend you only use isoprophl alcohol to clean the disc. For me using alcohol has resolved almost all read issues I have had with disc read issues. Using other methods suggested around the interwebs, such as liquid hand soap, has actually led to more problems for me. Yes ive got some ...

Re: Recovering from read errors in Linux

OK so I followed the guide (thanks!), the number of read errors didnt drop below 736 after ~6 times of trying step 2, bad sector size was 1507kb. So i called it quits at that point and moved onto step 3 and got as far as opening the "backup" using the discatt.dat file. I encountered a hash...

Re: Recovering from read errors in Linux

It depends on the level of damage. I think I had one go for like 4-5 days and multiple runs before it was able to fully recover all data. I've had others only go for a few hours. I took the plunge so we'll see how it goes. It made quick progress to around 40% in less than an hour then started worki...

Re: Recovering from read errors in Linux

Hi All, Im in the process of re-encoding a bunch of my bluray collection to h265 (which is going well) and one of my discs is being a pain. Ive started the process in the original post, just out of interest how long did the ddrescue section (parts 1 and 2) take for anyone whos tried this?? Its mainl...

Re: BD Drive won't rip DVD or Blu-rays all of a sudden

As I said in previous post changing my sata controller from IDE to AHCI sorted the issue for me and every SDF update after worked ok. There were two separate bugs in that code. Hang in IDE mode was just one of them (not rally a bug of my microcode, rather a missing workaround for buggy IDE controll...

Re: BD Drive won't rip DVD or Blu-rays all of a sudden

Tried with SDF v74, no luck. Ok, I'm disabling these drives for everyone for now. The individual SDF_STOP should not be necessary anymore. Sorry for the screw-up... Please do check this topic, I might ask for help, as I am unable to reproduce this crash on my hardware. Hi Mike, apologies Ive only j...

Re: BD Drive won't rip DVD or Blu-rays all of a sudden

Hi Mike, I just re-enabled webserver updates to get the latest sdf, still no joy here. I get the same behaviour as in my earlier post. drive details: Drive Information OS device name: /dev/sr0 Current profile: BD-ROM Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST Product: BDDVDRW UH12NS30 Revision: 1.03 Serial number: K9ME...

Re: BD Drive won't rip DVD or Blu-rays all of a sudden

Hi Mike, I have the same issue today (first time ive run MakeMKV in a few days), the first thing it did was download the latest sdf file. I then noticed the same behaviour as when I tested out the v6 libredrive bin file earlier in the month. The drive spins up but as soon as it tries to read the dis...

Same here, updated to 1.12.3 and Thor 3 (3d BluRay) shows hash errors etc...

...ive gone back to 1.12.2 and all works fine.

(This is running Linux version on Mint 18.3).

cheers all!
