Hi Woodstock! thanks for you help last time when I had this same issue.

Is anyone in a position to spot what combination of set up details are causing the fail?
is it kernel version, libs, blu ...

It does look like this is a permanent bug in this program.
Has anyone had makemkv work under Linux?

Does any one know of any open source alternatives?

Sadly it's not that.
Hopefully attached the log file which may help, but broadly, exactly the same... :-/

v1.9.1 Fails to rip BD under Debian Jessie: Error Scsi error

I succesefully ripped BD disks using my USB3 BD reader under windows 7.
Using the same drive and disks I always get this output when trying to rip under debian Linux:

"MakeMKV v1.9.1 linux(x64-release) started
Backing up disc into folder "/home/rich/Videos/backup/DESPICABLEME2_G51"
Evaluation ...
