Yes, I am familiar with OCR, and I know it's a pain in the butt.
Thanks for the advice.
Is there any easy way to search for PGS-compatible Blu-ray players?
Thanks.

Re: Best way to get subtitles to show up on TV Blu-ray playe
Hmmm... doesn't seem like the most trustworthy program to use. I'll do some research on my own, and see what I can find. I do want to point out though that this whole thing with the subtitles is incredibly frustrating. I love the concept of MakeMKV and the MKV format. The program works wonders on th...

Re: Best way to get subtitles to show up on TV Blu-ray playe
Sorry for the vague question. When I said "best", I meant a program that is free, does not compress the video / reduce the file size, and works on DVDs with any level of copy protection on them. I don't care about the menus, etc. In fact, I'd ideally like to be able to rip certain sets/cha...

Re: Best way to get subtitles to show up on TV Blu-ray playe
That backup feature is really cool and one that I did not know about.
I tried to use the backup feature for a DVD though, and couldn't seem to do it.
Is there a way to use it for a DVD as well?
Thanks again.

Re: Best way to get subtitles to show up on TV Blu-ray playe
After inquiring on the Handbrake forums, it turns out that Handbrake always encodes the video at a lower quality than the original, even if you select the "High Quality" option. As such, Handbrake is not an acceptable option, as far as I am concerned. Are there any other options that would...

Re: Best way to get subtitles to show up on TV Blu-ray playe
Thanks again, Woodstock. As you said, I was able to burn the subtitles into the video with Handbrake. Very cool. Unfortunately, the video quality seems to be greatly reduced with Handbrake. How can I produce an output file that is identical to the input MKV file, with the only difference being the s...

Re: Best way to get subtitles to show up on TV Blu-ray playe
Woodstock, thank you very much for your reply.
I will attempt the WDTV profile first, and see if that works.
If not, I will attempt Handbrake.
Can Handbrake processing MKV files directly?
Thanks.

Best way to get subtitles to show up on TV Blu-ray player?
I know that MakeMKV copies over subtitles if you select them, but no matter what I do, the subtitles, while selectable from my TV Blu-ray player, never show up on the screen when I play an MKV from my TV Blu-ray player. This is a problem and I definitely want the subtitles on the screen, even if the...

Re: No subtitles
ndjamena, thanks a lot for all the help and info. I'm going to have to play around with this some more, but it is frustrating that MakeMKV isn't able to get subtitles to work out of the box for most players. I mean, if VLC is the only player that works by default, then I think that there is definite...

Re: No subtitles
In the past, I was able to successfully mux SRT files with MKV files and get those subtitles to show up on all devices I use, so I will try what you recommended.
Thank you.
As a side question, is there a way to extract closed captions from an MKV file?
Thanks.

Re: No subtitles
Okay, I played around with Expert Mode, but regardless of the profile I select, they all seem to have the same selection rules, and I can't get the subtitles to show up.
What's the easiest way to get subtitles to always show up on any device for an MKV file?
Thank you.

Re: No subtitles
The thing is, I'm using a Blu-ray player on my TV, but the subtitles don't show up for DVDs that I run through MakeMKV as well.
Anyway, I'm going to play around with Expert Mode and see what I find.
Thank you.

Re: No subtitles
Okay, VLC worked fine, but Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player, and my Sony Blu-ray player on my TV do not show subtitles.
Is there anything I can do?
Thanks.
On a related note, why would VLC work, but not the others?
Thanks again.
