So what worked for me on disc 2 was making a decrypted backup using MakeMKV and then creating the MKV from that backup using MKVToolNIX (GUI v100 on a Mac). Trying to use MakeMKV on the backup copy just stalled at the exact same place as attempting to rip the disc directly.

Same issue - I just let it run and it eventually completed (after something like 4 hours). The resulting MKV plays fine and the disc played fine in my Panasonic BDP. There is something odd about the authoring for this disc.

I think you got lucky. I just purchased 2 of these from Amazon and both needed to be flashed. Work fine after flashing 1.03MK - 6X UHD ripping speed

Latest keyed worked for my US copy from Amazon

It decrypts with the latest keydb.cfg from this morning, but there is still no MakeMKV update for this disc on my system.

Just so folks aren't confused.

Well this is interesting - both versions ripped with no errors on my LG but the resulting MKV's have playback glitches on my Zidoo Z9X. It will play fine for several minutes and then either freeze or pixelate and crash back to the title screen of the film. I have tried 2 or 3 other existing 4K MKV's ...

so I just received my copy from DiabolikDVD. Instead of using one of my Pioneer drives, I used my LG as a test. Both cuts ripped fine, no issues.

I have no idea what is going on with these discs but my copies of The Abyss and Aliens have ripped fine.

^^ Check in the for sale part of the forum for a vendor in your location. They have Pioneer drives available.

As for the anecdotal evidence, I'm the outlier in your observations. I have a bu40n, 212u, and 513u. Abyss failed in all of them. It also failed in my UB820. I'm still waiting for a ...
