Re: Another dumb question
I have an interesting update. I decided to compare apples to apples, so instead of viewing the information through DVD Decrypter, I decided to view the information in VLC. For point of reference, I am using VLC in Windows, and getting the information from the log/messages window. Here is what I foun...

Re: Another dumb question
One other comment - my comments are strictly for DVDs, which seem to be the ones mostly impacted by region coding. I don't know if you did your tests with a Blu-Ray or 4K Blu-Ray. It seems like the industry has learned that region coding doesn't make sense anymore so most 4K Blu-Rays aren't region l...

Re: Another dumb question
Not sure about your tests. Today I ripped a DVD that had RCE (region) protection with MakeMKV. The regions on the original DVD were 1 and 4, as seen in the following screenshots from DVD Decrypter: https://i.imgur.com/NWT8slq.png DVD Decrypter also asks me to select a region when I insert the origin...

Re: Another dumb question
FYI I just read up on RCE (region code enhanced) protection vs just RC (region protection) protection and it looks like RCE protection adds an additional layer in a case where you are using a region-free or multi-region player. I guess it prohibits playing the disc on a region free or multi-region p...

Re: Another dumb question
If you use the MakeMKV backup function to backup a DVD to ISO, it will remove copy protection/encryption (CSS) and change the region to all regions (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 ). However, it doesn't remove RCE protection, although I don't know if this matters since it is set to all regions. To remove RC...

Not all playlists are being read from Elemental Blu-ray?
I am trying to rip the Elemental Blu-ray but have come across a strange problem. The movie itself ripped just fine but when I started to look for some of the extra content/featurettes, I noticed that some of them were missing when I load the disc in MakeMKV. I rechecked that I hadn't missed somethin...

Re: Troublesome Discs
When cleaning the discs, make sure to use 91% isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth. Always clean by wiping from edge to edge and not in a circular motion. I have found that doing this process has resolved about 90% of discs that I had trouble ripping. Using other cleaning methods usually made th...

Re: Questions on Forced Subtitles
~ With the full back up (which I covert to an ISO using ImgBurn) I can easily play the movie on my PC using VLC ~ You don't need to create an ISO to play the 'virtual' disc (including menus) in VLC MP, a MakeMKV backup is able to do the same thing. Just open VLC, click on "Media > Open Disc......

Re: Questions on Forced Subtitles
However, these are all still MKVs. And since they're taking up so much freaking space, I've just now started using Handbrake to rectify that, which does give you options regarding forced subs. I was wondering if you managed to streamline your process by now, and maybe share what to do? I generally ...

Re: Make MKV & subtitle checkboxes
Yes, you need to modify MakeMKV's user profile. (The following is copy 'n pasted from a post I made in another thread.) On your PC (see quote below for mac), navigate to C:\Program Files\MakeMKV and you need to open an archive called "appdata.tar" (I use 7zip to open this archive) then co...

Re: Make MKV & subtitle checkboxes
Okay, there isn't actually two subtitle tracks (as per your example above) on the disc, there is only the main subtitle track (" o language (=checkbox1) " in your words). Let's say this subtitle track has 1,000 lines. If you turn on that track in the disc menu it will display all 1,000 li...

Re: Way to see which subtitle track is "forced" before remuxing
You don't have to create an ISO to play the 'disc' in VLC. If you have a decrypted backup, simply open VLC MP and click on "Media>Open Disc", select the appropriate radio button ("Blu-ray" for example), and make sure "No disc menus" is NOT checked. Then browse to and s...

Re: Ripping everything on disk
Plex isn't going to replicate the menu system you have on the disc. You have to identify and set it up all manually, which can be very tedious. Your only option there would be to use the backup option, then find a player that will play either the BDMV folder or the ISO (create from the backup using ...
