Re: LibreDrive for normal/non-UHD blu-rays?

If you were using a non-LibreDrive Blu-ray drive made after 2008-2009 and there were no available unrevoked host certificates, you would not be able to backup any bus encrypted enabled discs. This is a consideration for both AACS 1.0 (1080p) and AACS 2.x (2160p/UHD). A valid, unrevoked host certifi...

Re: LibreDrive for normal/non-UHD blu-rays?

Good to know you got the disc to rip but I'm not sure why you keep mentioning SDF. sdf.bin has nothing to do with disc decryption. MakeMKV uses SDF to know what drive models have libredrive enabled. MakeMKV's HK (hashed keys) database is what allows the application to decrypt discs. So as far as di...

Re: Are any "4K" slim bluray drives on amazon trustworthy?

I can confirm that the first link is a valid drive. I bought that same one like a month ago although it took several weeks to ship (I finally got it last week). I was able to flash it and confirmed I could rip 4K discs with it.

Re: LibreDrive for normal/non-UHD blu-rays?

A new AACS revision happens as required. It used to happen quite frequently back when blu-ray was newer but these days, more like once or twice a year. Playing the discs means nothing. A disc containing a newer AACS revision than what the drive has ever seen will automatically update the revoked ce...

Re: LibreDrive for normal/non-UHD blu-rays?

SDF and KeyDB have nothing to do with AACS. It's the AACS revision on the disc that revokes certificates as soon as the disc is initialized by the OS. Ok I apparently don't understand the whole end to end process (nor did I ever claim I did!), but this is why I ask these questions. So, I have...

Re: What Pioneer internal drives are UHD capable out of the box?

Question: Would it be possible to remove the Pioneer slim drives from their enclosures and then add it to an eclosure like the following to make it an internal drive? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0081IOSOW/ I recently got one of the Verbatim external slim drives on Amazon and it doesn't look i...

Libredrive is helpful for normal blu-ray discs as it allows the drive to continue being used to rip discs even if the certificate get's revoked by a newer AACS revision.
Ok makes sense, but would dowloading the latest SDF/KeyDB also solve that problem without needing LibreDrive?

Re: What Pioneer internal drives are UHD capable out of the box?

Well, we only have external models now (and these are probably the last of them too!) as there really aren't any new internal drives left in the world. You might be extremely lucky if you can find a new BDR-212V or BDR-212DBK on Amazon otherwise you would be looking at a used model. There are appar...

LibreDrive for normal/non-UHD blu-rays?

I am trying to understand how LibreDrive is related to normal/non-UHD Blu-rays. I know LibreDrive is necessary to rip UHD discs. However, I have two non-UHD stock Blu-ray drives that have never been flashed and aren't LibreDrive enabled. They rip normal non-UHD Blu-rays without issue. Occasionally I...

What Pioneer internal drives are UHD capable out of the box?

I am looking to buy an internal Pioneer drive but want to make sure its UHD capable without having to worry about cross flashing support. What internal Pioneer models should I look for? Also, any suggestions for reputable eBay sellers, and/or things to watch out for on eBay? I am finding several eBa...

Re: Newb question on choosing titles to extract

Just pick the one with chapters. Like you noticed, they are most likely identical besides that difference. This usually happens on discs that don't use seamless branching for the main feature: The one with chapters is the .mpls playlist file, while the one without is the raw .m2ts stream. As for me...

How can you rule it out as the problem if you haven't tried to clean the disc? If you clean the disc, and it still doesn't work, THEN you can rule it out as a p...

Re: Blu-ray ISOs: what ISO standard?

I’ve played 100s of backed up ISOs withe MakeMkv folder in it with VLC and never had an issue. Why would it? That folder isn’t part of the DVD/Blu-Ray spec so why would VLC even look at it? I would be interested to read the thread where you saw this for more information. Sorry I saw that you posted...

Re: Recommendations for a new internal UHD drive

You can't really go by the label these days but you might be lucky. A lot of these drives are the older models with new labels on them. Thanks for the tip. The drive hasn't shipped yet, so I asked the seller to confirm its drive platform MT1959. Don't know if he will know what I am talking about. I...

Re: Recommendations for a new internal UHD drive

There's been an absolute ton of ASUS BW-16D1HT drives on ebay of late that are the older MT1939 drive platform and are incompatible with flashoing for UHD readability. The pictures on the listing show the drive was manufactured in 2022, which is newer than the drive that died on me (2019). Hopefull...
