There is NO "mystery" here.
ffmpeg actually builds fine in "/tmp/ffmpeg/..." if you would just follow the instruction guide given in: https://forum.makemkv.com/forum ...

As i understand it, when I want to include the support for
FLAC encoder that handles 24-bit audio I need to
enable "libfdk-aac" support when configuring FFMmpeg....
...
I have checked and the instructions for installing
MakeMKV 1.17.8 for Linux are still the same

Re: Suggestion: building makemkv-oss with ffmpeg-4.4.5
-just tested makemkv-1.17.8, (building it) with latest ffmpeg-snapshot, and the FLAC profiles, ..., all work fine now.mike admin wrote: Mon Sep 30, 2024 1:38 pm It was just a one-line bug that prevented working with recent ffmpeg. It is fixed in 1.17.8 , all versions of ffmpeg are now supported. The fix can be easily backported to previous versions - it is just a single-line type in makemkv-oss package.
Thanks for the fix.

Up untill here all good and no errors.
But on close inspection, I can see that the
"/tmp/ffmpeg" has not been created ...
After you run your "./configure ...", you'll need to also run a "make install" in your "~/ffmpeg-7.0.2" folder.
The "/tmp/ffmpeg/..." folder will not be created until ...

Re: PAL dvd's, and regions?
MakeMKV really doesn't care about PAL vs. NTSC, and region coding is "almost completely" a non-problem.
"Almost completely" because there are some drives that will complain about out-of-region disks and won't respond to the work-around that MakeMKV uses in that case. It is VERY rare; While I've ...

PAL dvd's, and regions?
Hello,
Presently I'm in Region 1 (US/CAN/...), which is NTSC, but I'll be receiving, for the first time, some (store-bought) PAL dvd's, as a gift soon, from my family overseas, who are in the UK (Region 2/PAL).
Ok, so right now I have an internal LG (WH16NS40) Blu-ray/DVD/... player/burner, as ...

MakeMKV 1.8.5 for Linux : Thankyou ! :)
I've used makemkv for over a year now, and it's definitely worth the money.
I ONLY use Linux, Arch Linux to be exact.
Notwithstanding, I would just like to say a big thanks for making "makemkv" a very good application for Linux.
What I mean is:
