Re: 1.8.9 - Failed to open disc (for some blu-rays)

This is occurring for me with Warner's The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981) More specifically– Using direct disc access mode This disc uses newer version of AACS protection. Please let us know about it by visiting http://www.makemkv.com/a/?3X4KRzYt7GKICL... Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:COPY ...

Re: Due to a bug in Linux kernel messages

I believe the error occurred when MakeMKV was scanning the disc. When I try to reproduce the behavior today however; I cannot. Tried with multiple discs in addition to the original one which failed yesterday. (And no, the system had not been booted in the meantime.) The curious thing is that the dis...

Re: Due to a bug in Linux kernel messages

Device '/dev/sr0' is partially inaccessible due to a bug in Linux kernel (it reports invalid block device size). This can be worked around, but read speed may be very slow. I'm also getting this on a newly-compiled 0.8.4 version running the most recent 'Quantal Quetzal' kernel (3.8.0-27-generic #40...

Re: makemkv producing .mkvs with video corruption

Gotcha. But as long as there is a workaround for it I'm happy. I can certainly live without the hw-acceleration as the system is more than capable of playing h.264 material without it. Maybe Apple has a focus on fixing this, but usually their updates introduce more issues than the few trivial ones t...

Re: makemkv producing .mkvs with video corruption

Unsure what you mean with your last comment. I've verified that the glitch is not there with the VDADecoder acceleration disabled in XBMC.

This is also apparently a known issue affecting certain Macs, detailed here: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=XB ... c_specific

Re: makemkv producing .mkvs with video corruption

btw.–I don't know if the clip is still of interest; since you were right in suggesting it is related to the Intel VDADecoder/x264 acceleration–which makes it funny how that problem could show up only _ three times _ for an entire 2h feature. I would have thought it'd be much more visible if the hw-a...

Re: makemkv producing .mkvs with video corruption

I've uploaded a short sequence displaying the glitch. Also verified that it is the VDADecoder acceleration in OSX (I'm using Intel HD3000) which is causing it.

Yeah, I was planning to do that for a future bug report anyway–will post a link or attachment once I have it.

Re: makemkv producing .mkvs with video corruption

Which would be true if MPlayer on OSX behaved the same way, which it doesn't. :) – it also uses hw accel. Since there are clearly identifiable spots which do not change between rips or demuxing/remuxing the streams, it appears to be the way each player handles the mkv/h264 video decoding (i.e, a com...

Re: makemkv producing .mkvs with video corruption

I've now done the audio/video extraction + remuxing via mkvmerge; and can confirm that the glitch is still there. Also reconfirmed that this same video (either original or remuxed) plays fine via MPlayer on OSX. (albeit not with the most recent VLC or XBMC) Also performed a test with the Linux build...

Re: Cutting down on artifacts

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I was wondering if any of you were able to solve or work around this issue? I am currently experiencing this problem myself (glitches/video corruption/tearing & smearing on all MakeMKV generated MKVs, 2-3 times per title). To me it appears that the gener...

Thanks for the mkvextract/-merge tip. I will try that later and see whether it makes any difference.

Re: makemkv producing .mkvs with video corruption

The file sizes are indeed identical, although diff-ing the files reveal that they are different between rips. I did a couple of more tests – the full backup (reported no issues), ripping to local drives vs. nfs-shares, etc. (made no difference) However , from what it now looks like it appears to be ...

Re: makemkv producing .mkvs with video corruption

Just noticed your post from a Google search. I'm having this exact same issue show up in all the .mkv's I've ripped using MakeMKV (which is currently at version 1.8.2). I'm on OS X. The issue is present on several players – XBMC, VLC, MplayerX, etc. The problem is also present on both BD-ROM drives ...
