Re: Translucent blu ray discs

Does anyone else have problems ripping translucent blu ray discs? These are the discs that are much easier to see through when held up to light than the older, more opaque Blu Ray discs. I get these kinds of discs now in about 20% of my Netflix deliveries. If they have even the smallest imperfectio...

:D also, pause with ability to take disc out temporarily and put the same disc back in. Don't know if it'd be possible to implement that.

Re: Hardware encoder

I don't know of any that work in conjunction with the Mac, but... You MIGHT be able to get access to the QuickSync Video (QSV) hardware on your Mac, if you have it , by booting Windows on it. It isn't supported under OS X (Intel hasn't released an application interface for it in OS X), but it is bl...

P.S. There's really nothing wrong with it - I actually love the program. I'm just curious.
Every software actively in use is beta software.

MakeMKV internals

First of all, kudos to you always, Mike! It's a great software. I was wondering which programming language you used to write makemkv (specifically makemkvcon). Could you share some details? I tried searching for this info but couldn't find it. How did the project idea come about? How many people wor...

Re: Problems with Buying this product

I am attempting to purchase a copy of MakeMKV using an American Express card, and it gets rejected. based on the 3 reasons given, the cause is the inability of the payment gateway being able to contact my credit card provider. Has anyone else managed to buy a copy using AmEx? I am trying to work ou...

Re: Olympus has Fallen UK

I have had this problem with numerous discs. It's not solvable. There's something wrong in the tracks which makemkv refuses to overlook. People (including me) have requested the author numerous times to make makemkv a little more tolerant of errors and just skip over errors and continue, like a movi...

Re: LEGALITY DISCUSSION (US)

Really? And what about the fact that it does circumvent the BD copy protection to get the content from the disc? I'm sure the industry lawyers won't look kindly on your theory that making a backup is somehow different. Nuff said. ofcourse if a backup circumvents encryption then it's illegal. i was ...

Re: LEGALITY DISCUSSION (US)

Does this fill you with confidence yet? if you go by the literal wording of the 2 laws, they are not conflicting IMHO. Yes you cannot circumvent copy protection mechanisms. But you can make a backup. So, w.r.t makemkv, the "backup" feature of blu-ray should be perfectly legal, since the m...

Re: LEGALITY DISCUSSION (US)

That's not true because it doesn't make sense. Making an mkv format file itself is not illegal. No, but taking copy protected content as the source is. Sure, agreed, but that has nothing to do with mkv per se. This program could have a clone called makeAVI or makeXYZ and it'd still not be legal as ...

Re: LEGALITY DISCUSSION (US)

Basically, making an MKV of anything in the US is officially illegal. That's not true because it doesn't make sense. Making an mkv format file itself is not illegal. mkv is just a container. I could convert my personal videos to mkv. I could also rip a non copy-protected disc to a mkv container. Th...

Re: Is MakeMKV lossless ripping?

My main concern is being able to rip a BluRay disc and being able to do sha512sum on the output and the original file and get the same value. If I want to reencode to a different format (ie different audio/video codec), I'll do it in another file. I just want the original 1:1 copy on hand so I can ...
