I was able to rip a blu-ray (Eyes Wide Shut 1999) but not 2 recent regular DVDs (Dark Night Rises and A Christmas Carol). Does that mean anything?

I can return this drive. Can you tell me which one is best to use as an external drive with a Mac before I purchase MakeMKV?
