Re: MakeMKV slows down during ripping till it "dies" ?
Hey there, haven't ripped a BD since ages but I guess times are changing... I found out what the issue was somewhat the hard way. My external BD drive simply was slowly dying. The named BD in this thread was simply the first one where the drives started to cause irregular issues while ripp...

Re: MakeMKV slows down during ripping till it "dies" ?
So I other words you do not have the issues I described about ripping BD to MKV without any additional programm accessing the drive ?

Re: MakeMKV slows down during ripping till it "dies" ?
atomic7431,
it would be interesting what happens when you try to copy the encrypted files from the BD over to your PC or may be simply generate an ISO from the BD ?

Re: MakeMKV slows down during ripping till it "dies" ?
Mike, I do not feel like argueing with you....you are the expert in this field. I did just share my observations as End-user. I have one BD behaving strange with MakeMKV which really had issues (Predator Hunter Edition). When ripping this huge set of BDs for a friend I experienced such issues severa...

Re: MakeMKV slows down during ripping till it "dies" ?
Interesting....thanks for posting ! You could try the following: Use a different software for ripping the BDs on your mac. If you can confirm similar behaviour (MakeMKV "dies" but Blu-Ray ripper works) then we have at least some sort of confirmation that not neccessarily the BD or BD-drive...

Rahul,
simply using a different version of a MKV muxer may produce significant file size differences.
You can simply demux both MKV files to raw streams by using MVKExtract and compare both the number of stream and their corresponding sizes.

Re: MakeMKV slows down during ripping till it "dies" ?
Interesting....please post your results here. One part of me tries to believe that everything can be explained by defect BDs and / or drive. But in general I see here way too many postings about identical or similar behaviour. It is hard to believe that they all share the similar issues (dirty, defe...

Re: MakeMKV slows down during ripping till it "dies" ?
Possibly...I will keep an eye on the BD. If similar behaviour happens again in MakeMKVs "MKV mode" I will try to rip the complete BD.
Thanks for your help !

Re: MakeMKV won't even open the disc
Uhoh...this does not sound good. Usually the BD drive should at least initialize the BD once inserted. Under Linux distributions Udev takes care of automounting. You can then access the file and copy them over as usual files on any media. If mounting does not work this indicates hardware issues (eit...

Re: MakeMKV slows down during ripping till it "dies" ?
Strange things happen here  Full dump under Windows with decryption worked fine. No issues...no strange drive sounds...no decrease in ripping speed. Must I understand this ? Driven by the success I retried MakeMKV under Linux using the console command to do also a full dump but then my system ...

Re: MakeMKV won't even open the disc
May be just a stupid idea:
But do as Mike said.
Put in the BD first, allow it to be mounted (or mount manually). Then try to access files on the BD (e.g. copy some smaller one to your HDD). Then launch MakeMKV and see what happens.

Re: Punisher Warzone Fails
Dirty, damaged or poorly pressed disc. Swap it for a new one. Don't post any assumptions without physical access to the BDs and the drive which the TO uses. I have made similar experiences with MakeMKV reporting SCSI errors on some BDs which I ripped. They were perfectly clean. They also pla...

Re: MakeMKV slows down during ripping till it "dies" ?
Mike, thanks for replying ! I took the opportunity and verified the issues with one of the named BDs again. I use Predator "Ultimate Hunter Edition" for my experiments. The BD was cleaned carefully using a micro fibre clothing to remove even the smallest finger print. Test #1: Xubuntu 11.1...

Re: MakeMKV slows down during ripping till it "dies" ?
joetesta, thanks for your reply ! I spent quite some time on this topic but could not really determine what is causing this issues. Over a month ago when I reported the issue here, most of the time I got the same replies: - Defect disc - Dirty disc etc. But my observations and the conclusions from t...

Re: Dark Knight Rises, Avatar 3d & Ice Age 4
I can only second this. I was not able to process the BD set for the Alien Anthology but could dump them to ISO with AnyDVD HD without issues. To me it seems that the win-win combination here is AnyDVD HD and MakeMKV despite the warnings MakeMKV issues when you access a BD through the decryption lay...
