ok thanks for the clarification! I put the firmware on WH14NS40 which is in my pc, and i'll plan on putting it on the buffalo external later on today or this week. since both are native LG drives it should be fine..

This may sound like a dumb question but will flashing the firmware on it prevent it from burning BDXL's or other BluRay media?

I know it was a gamble, but I purchased this from BH Photo Video as a backup to my WH14NS40. If I'm not planning on ripping UHD / 4K discs is the firmware flashing necessary? if so, would it be recommended to remove it from the enclosure and plug it directly into my computer for the firmware update ...
