Thanks, I just logged back in to provide an update, yes newer versions seem to be broken on Linux.
I found a thread on using older versions for Linux and with 1.17.7 I could flash the firmware, but 1.17.7 refused to read a disk as the version was 'too old' and 1.18.4 just runs forever.

I'm trying to flash firmware DE_LG_BU40N_1.00.bin (or DE_LG_BU40N_1.03_MK.bin) to a BU40N Bluray drive and need some help, thanks in advance.
I'm running arch linux. I installed makemkv (v1.18.4). When I open makemkv > about, it says the latest version is 1.18.3 (older?) and my license type ...
