Re: BW-16D1X-U viability for UHD ripping – internal drive lottery concerns
Success! Thanks guys. No long times reads. Detected E.T. 4k instantly. ripping now with no issues. I'm going to take care of this one while not stressing it too much all at once and limiting reflashes (not at all if I can help it). Lesson learned. Couldn't have done it without you all. Thank you aga...

Re: WH16NS40 NS50 soft-bricked after wrong firmware – no disc detection – need recovery guidance / possible full dump
I did open the drive and it actually looked pretty clean inside already, but after flashing to WH16NS60 1.02-MK I went ahead and cleaned the lasers directly too. Now the discs will spin for about a minute and then stop. There also isn’t as much grinding noise as before the flash and cleaning, so may...

Re: BW-16D1X-U viability for UHD ripping – internal drive lottery concerns
All ASUS BW‑16D1X‑U units that can still be found in stores now are the last remaining stock, and they contain an LG drive inside. In May 2025, Asus replaced Pioneer drives with LG drives because Pioneer discontinued the manufacturing of optical drives. I have the last 3 units of the ASUS BW‑16D1X‑...

Re: BW-16D1X-U viability for UHD ripping – internal drive lottery concerns
i hate ai overview style questions but really you should take almost any drive you can get now. the pioneer is much better the lg is junk but sorta usable but playing with it constant reboots and disc cleanings and exchanges. all lgs are flashable in that drive and all pioneers even 12/22+ fw are f...

Re: WH16NS40 NS50 soft-bricked after wrong firmware – no disc detection – need recovery guidance / possible full dump
Thanks for the response—I appreciate the straightforward guidance. I followed your steps exactly to rule out any initialization or software timing issues: 1. Fully powered down the system (tested both internal SATA and external enclosure) for ~15 minutes 2. Booted back up and inserted a disc before ...

Re: WH16NS40 NS50 soft-bricked after wrong firmware – no disc detection – need recovery guidance / possible full dump
Hi all, I wanted to follow up on my original post with an update and ask for further guidance. After following earlier advice, I was able to successfully recover the drive using the LG official flasher and restore it to a working state. It functioned normally for about a week and was able to read an...

Re: WH16NS40 NS50 soft-bricked after wrong firmware – no disc detection – need recovery guidance / possible full dump
Try using lgs official updater to unbrick it Or the unlocked LG or Asus flasher in the guide Thank you for the guidance—I really appreciate the help. I was able to recover the drive successfully. The LG official updater worked immediately to restore the factory firmware and bring the drive back to ...
