I was just impatient. Once MakeMKV updated it was able to open the DVDs without issue and no modifications to the drives.

Possible to flash LG SP60NB50 external optical drive?
I have a couple LG SP60NB50 optical drives I tired to used with MakeMKV but getting the read protection errors. What can be done in terms of flashing these to allow them to start making MKVs from my DVD library?
