Try the drive connected directly to SATA in a desktop PC, power it off the PC's power supply. I have a BU40N and was having the same symptoms : https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=197289#p197289 ...works fine connected via SATA, so the external slim enclosure is the issue - I'm guessing ...

Nailed it! Switched the drive to direct via SATA, powered off the PC power supply. Works perfectly.
Off to find buy one of the recommended USB-SATA enclosures...

Using MakeMKV 1.18.3 Beta, seems I am unable to rip any UHD discs. I've tried three so far, including one I ripped previously with the same hardware. Bluray rips OK.
