Re: The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted

Very true, thank you for mentioning that.

(I just thought that wouldn't be the case, since xesegik probably would have told us about it given that they posted an error message in the first post of this thread. But it certainly doesn't hurt to mention this, especially since other people might ...

Re: The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted

So you do have a UHD capable drive as well as the correct firmware. It's definitely worth doing this :

Download the latest version of KEYDB.cfg (https://fvonline-db.bplaced.net/), then :

First, "keydb.cfg" should be renamed to "KEYDB.cfg", as Linux is case-sensitive. Secondly, it should also be ...

Re: SDFtool Flasher

No idea what SDF stands for. Google (AI) tells me it's Secure Drive Firmware LOL. (Kinda doubt that.)
I always assumed it just meant Supported Drive Firmware, just like HK seems to refer to Hashed Keys. I could be wrong though.

Re: Verbatim 43888 MakeMKV flashing

Verbatim customer services said that you could only flash the 43888 from a Windows PC ?

Officially ? Probably. LibreDrive flashing is not "official" flashing, though.

- does anyone have one for sale ?

There's a whole forum subsection for buying pre-flashed drives : https://forum.makemkv.com ...

Re: SDFtool Flasher

2. Is there any difference between flashing the Buffalo for basic "LibreDrive" compatibility, and flashing it for 4K/UHD compatibility? IOW, if I flash it for LibreDrive, do I "automatically" get 4K/UHD support also?

There is a difference between flashing a drive for "mere" LibreDrive ...

Re: The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted

If it's the 4K version, you need a UHD-compatible drive and LibreDrive : https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18856 and https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19634

With UHD discs (EDIT : and even some unsupported regular Blu-ray discs when you don't have LibreDrive, as tomty89 ...

Re: Ubuntu VLC use MakeMKV

Well it definitely worked / works for me on Arch, but my experience is with mpv and bd_info only. (I'm not sure if the player / frontend could matter though.) Also mainly of encrypted backup instead of direct disc playback (but I definitely tested the latter once -- could be just regular BD though ...

Re: Ubuntu VLC use MakeMKV

uninstalling libaacs and libbdplus properly might be a better thing to do

Good point - I assumed this to already be the case for chihwahli, but I probably should have mentioned that to them. The reason I posted this :

sudo rm libaacs.so.0 libbdplus.so.0

was more in the very unlikely case ...

Re: Ubuntu VLC use MakeMKV

You shouldn't need to create the symlink unless you have some ancient system / libbluray though

On my Noble Numbat-based distro, I most certainly did need both symlinks.

EDIT : Please note that it's also not recommended to use your Blu-ray drive to play discs directly in a repeated manner, as ...

Re: Ubuntu VLC use MakeMKV

Please try this instead :

Open a terminal inside the /usr/lib folder (as you previousy did)

Then :

sudo rm libaacs.so.0 libbdplus.so.0

Ignore any error messages, this is just a precaution to remove any faulty links, just in case.

Then, in the same terminal and the same folder :

sudo ln -vs ...

Re: Do I need to update for LibreDrive?

you can copy the content of the disc without having MakeMKV or so doing anything special. It's just that the content would be encrypted as it is.

I was aware of that, yes. By "rip" I meant making a decrypted backup, given the context (GerryM showed in the logs that MakeMKV is able to open a UHD ...

Re: Do I need to update for LibreDrive?

Just now it refused to recognize a regular old Blu-Ray disc.

If it's an old Blu-ray disc I would recommend cleaning it (not the label side, the other side, obviously) with a slightly damp, clean microfiber cloth to get rid of the chemical haze that can prevent ripping. Then, you can dry it with ...

Re: Do I need to update for LibreDrive?

Thanks for the reply, but I did mean what I said. This drive recognizes and rips UHD discs. My process is to make an MakeMKV backup of the discs and then rip from the backups, but for this I made a point to also rip directly from the disk. Both processes were successful, even with all those errors ...
