Re: Recommended Drives for (Blu-ray) Recovery
That is the new version of BW-16D1HT. It is LibreDrive capable btw. They are discontinued now I am pretty sure. Last pieces manufactured around June/July(?) 2025. Oh nice! That's good to know. Yeah, I bought an eSATAp setup as a more permanent solution for my PC and we'll see how that works. But ye...

Re: Recommended Drives for (Blu-ray) Recovery
Okay. I had to eventually connect the drive to a PC directly via it's SATA. Bypassing the Unitek adapter. Turns out the chip in the adapter was preventing me from reading all the drive data. Here is the output from connecting the drive via SATA: Drive Information OS device name: E: Manufacturer: ASU...

Re: Recommended Drives for (Blu-ray) Recovery
I use ddrescue with USB adapters (only), and it is fine. Two of my adapters are Unitek, and they are good for full capabilities -- reporting drive information and for flashing. I also have a Benfei, and it behaves the same, though without the requirement for the USB connection to the host or hub be...

Re: Recommended Drives for (Blu-ray) Recovery
I have a Unitek adapter with AC power and it turns out to require a powered USB connection for the data transfer. In other words, connecting this to a hard drive or optical drive, the adapter needs to have its AC connection as well as the USB connector going to a powered port. I can transfer data. ...

Re: Recommended Drives for (Blu-ray) Recovery
Okay, I bought a 5.25 internal Asus BW-16D1HT Blu-ray drive from Newegg a few weeks ago. Seems to be the only place that sells 5.25 internal Asus Drives nowadays. I also bought a Unitek Y-3324 USB to sata cable (as suggested in the Flashing Guide). However, when using DDrescue, it appears this drive...

Sounds good. I'll give the good old college try and see if I get better results. Thank you!

Re: Recommended Drives for (Blu-ray) Recovery
Just for clarification, when you say to use a desktop drive, do you mean to use an internal drive? Or can it be an external drive that is just not a slim version? My PC does not have a spot for a 5.25in drive, unfortunately.

Re: Recommended Drives for (Blu-ray) Recovery
If you're using ddrescue and there's a risk the disc might disintegrate in the drive, I wouldn't use a LibreDrive capable drive to do it. I wouldn't want the possibility of a million disc pieces floating around in my optical drive potentially damaging it. Since the disc is a burned disc from a vide...

Recommended Drives for (Blu-ray) Recovery
Hello, I am working on trying to recover the video files from a few blu-ray discs for a friend using ddrescue. As MakeMKV fails to retrieve some video files. The thing is that these discs are of his wedding from over 10 years ago and the videography must have used some cheap blu-ray discs. As one ap...
