Just found this post via Google when I had the same issue and thought I can maybe help someone.

In my case on Fedora 43 it was because the backup was on an NTFS partition. When I copied it to my root ext4 partition I could open it without any issues.

I'm currently fighting the first disc of the set as well. Ripping with MakeMKV failed, but reading with ddrescue succeeded with two short interruptions (which have never been an issue so far). I ripped it twice, checksum matches, but MakeMKV throws a ton of errors like The source file '/BDMV/STREAM/...

I thought libredrive would be enabled "automatically" since the firmware is flashed. So I need to use makemkvcon for this?
