Re: Verbatim 43888 on linux not ripping
Seems a poorly planned drive, no external power, no y cable. Also finicky when it comes to cables. The cable it comes with is usb c to a, with an adapter to work with usb c. The adapter helped, but didn't solve the issue. Tried a certified usb c to c cable. Had to plug unplug and reboot a few times ...

Verbatim 43888 on linux not ripping
I'm having trouble with this drive. Most Blurays are failing to both back up or make mkvs. Some of them can play. I cleaned the discs multiple times and they look fine, no damage. I decided to try ddrescue to see if anything else was going on, noticed If it pauses for a couple seconds it disconnects...

Re: what version of sdftool and sdf.bin should be used with makemkv 1.17.7?
Ok I saw the sdftool link that seems to point back at makemkvcon of the same directory, So in usr/bin (v 1.18.3) sdftool points to makemkvcon in usr/bin. In the makemkv 1.17.7/bin it points to the makemkvcon in that 1.17.7 install directory. So I went into the makemkv 1.17.7 bin folder and since it ...

Re: what version of sdftool and sdf.bin should be used with makemkv 1.17.7?
I gave up and tried installing makemkv 1.17.7 to another directory and running that. It seems to have the same issue. Unclear on what I'm supposed to symlink to?

Re: Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2026
How do you backup your original firmware before flashing? I would like to be able to revert if it doesn't go right. Using linux. Have both makemkv 1.17.7 and 1.18.3. Running makemkvcon f --version for either reports LibDriveIo/SdfTool version: 2.6 Edit: Just bought the BP50NB40 NB52 . I'm probably g...

what version of sdftool and sdf.bin should be used with makemkv 1.17.7?
When I check sdftool --version it says it's 2.6 which I think belongs to 1.8,3, which sounds like won't work? because you're supposed to use 1.17.7 Or do they both use the same version of sdftool? For some reason I thought they used different version. Also sdf.bin has it changed? What happens if I h...

Re: Help getting blu-ray menus working
Had to try a lot of different things to get it working, so I'm not quite sure the order i which I tried them, and don't recall everything I did. At one point needed to reinstall makemkv (v 1.18.2). Originally built it with checkinstall I think so to have a deb file that I could install and remove. A...

shasum isn't matching
I tried downloading makemkv files https://makemkv.com/download/old/makemkv-bin-1.17.7.tar.gz https://makemkv.com/download/old/makemkv-oss-1.17.7.tar.gz and they gave me the wrong shasum. But when I ran them through virus total I think it reported the correct one. However CRDF reported the files as &...

How do you install it to different directories, doesn't it automatically go to /usr/bin? How do you change that?
