Unfortunately, there is no way to know anything about that drive. I can tell you from experience that re-badged drives are everywhere and there is no way of knowing until you have the drive in your hand. The best way to get a known good drive is to buy it from a trusted seller.

Would anyone have a suggestion for a specific Pioneer drive model number? I have been mostly using the 5.25" drives but I can look at slim as well.

I know this may be of limited usefulness to everyone, but I am going to see what I can do anyway.

It was more a question of it it would be helpful in developing a software solution or for someone who provides the flashing service for users who don't have/want the skills to do it themselves.
