Re: Blu-ray region issue
The "very small rip" part would *almost* make me think that for whatever reason MakeMKV ripped the region warning video instead of the actual movie.
Yes, that seems to be exactly what was happening.
Could you please tell me which Blu-ray disc it is, if you don't mind disclosing that ...

Blu-ray region issue
A recent Blu-Ray rip seems to have run into some kind of region-blocking, as all I get is a very small rip that, when converted or played, gives me a screen from the menu system that says the disc can only be played on a Region A player. (The same region-warning menu screen is displayed if I use VLC ...

Re: ASUS BW-16D1X-U - Flashable?
Just to follow up, I finally received the drive (an LG BP60NB10), flashed it, and it seems to be ripping 4k just fine. Thanks!

Great, thanks. I'll give it a go. At least I am reasonably familiar with the flashing process at this point!

Post the link.

There seem relatively limited options for recommended plug'n'play external drives. (I'd prefer to not mess about with putting an internal drive in an external enclosure, if possible!) I suppose I can try to find one of the other LG options on eBay, if not ...

Re: ASUS BW-16D1X-U - Flashable?
Most likely dead.
So I have feared.
Well, Amazon US lists a "Produplicator LG BP60NB10", which I am guessing is (or is the equivalent of, or contains) the "BP60NB10 NB10/12" listed in the "Recommended UHD Drives to get" section of the "Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2025 ...

Re: ASUS BW-16D1X-U - Flashable?
Hi! A few months ago, I successfully flashed my ASUS BW-16D1X-U using HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin from "The all you need firmware pack". All was well. I could read all kinds of discs -- until today, when the drive suddenly stopped reading any kind of disc. This is not an ...

You didn't provide the command line used but I assume you are missing 'enc'
Ah, you assume correctly. I hadn't realized that my firmware was on the encrypted list, though I really should have guessed that when it didn't seem to work! I ran it again using the format for encrypted firmware ...

Re: ASUS BW-16D1X-U - Flashable?
Hmm, although the command-line flashing process seems to have concluded successfully (according ot the output), makemkv still seems unable to load a 4K UHD disc when inserted into the drive, and the drive information itself seems unchanged.
Here's the result of the command-line flashing process ...

Also, I notice that the "ultimate guide" instructions state " the latest working version is 1.17.7 of makemkv for flashing do not use an newer version for flashing until further notice on linux ". I'm not on Linux; I'm on a Mac; but should I try to first downgrade to makemkv 1.17.7 first anyway? I ...

Re: ASUS BW-16D1X-U - Flashable?
Sounds good. However, I notice that the "all you need" firmware pack I downloaded (from the "ultimate guide" page) doesn't have something obviously corresponding precisely to "LG WH16NS60 1.02MK", though it does have the sort-of-similar file " HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin ...
